A.P. Moller-Maersk signed a green methanol purchase agreement with Goldwind Green Energy Chemical, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Goldwind Technology, a leader in clean energy in China. The agreement is the first large-scale green methanol purchase agreement in the global shipping industry and will be valid until after 2030.

The project is located in Xing’an League, Northeast China, about 1,000 kilometers away from Beijing. Methanol production in the agreement includes green biomass methanol and electricity-based methanol, and will all be produced using wind energy.
Goldwind Technology will complete the final investment decision for the project by the end of this year and begin providing green methanol to Maersk in 2026.
