Preparation of 4-amino-N-ethyl-N-(beta-methanesulfonamideethyl)m-toluidine sulfate_Kain Industrial Additive

Background and overview[1]

4-Amino-N-ethyl-N-(beta-methanesulfonamideethyl)m-toluidine sulfate, trade name CD-3, is a color developer and an important photographic chemical . 4-Amino-N-ethyl-N-(beta-methanesulfonamideethyl)m-toluidine sulfate is used for the development of oil-soluble color reversal films and color photographic papers.

Preparation[1]

1. Reagents and instruments

Compound (1) (self-made); 85% hydrazine hydrate (AR, Shanghai Chemical Reagent Purchasing and Supply Station); ferric chloride hexahydrate, powdered activated carbon, anhydrous ethanol, 98% sulfuric acid (all domestically produced, AR) ,Raney-Ni (homemade).

The melting point was measured with a WRS-1 digital melting point instrument, the ash content was measured with a muffle furnace, and the heavy metal content was measured with a chemical titration method.

2. Experimental part

Add 250 ml of absolute ethanol into a four-neck bottle with stirring, reflux and heating devices, add ferric chloride hexahydrate and activated carbon (the activated carbon is baked at 120°C for 5 hours, sealed and stored), and add compound (1) while stirring , add dropwise 85% hydrazine hydrate, control the reaction temperature at 30~65°C, add dropwise for about 1 hour; continue stirring for 2~4 hours until the reaction is completed.

Filter to remove activated carbon at around 40°C, add 10g of 80% sulfuric acid to the filtrate, stir, cool, and filter out the precipitate to obtain an ethanol solution of compound (2).

The above mother liquor is salted by adding sulfuric acid, cooled in an ice bath, and filtered to obtain a crude product. The crude product is recrystallized in ethanol, cooled and filtered to obtain white crystal CD-3. Dry and test performance.

After refining, CD-3 is obtained, with an ash content of 0.01%, a melting point of 129~130°C, and a content of 99.7%.
