● Ranked first in Europe and third globally in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI)
● MSCI ESG confirms AA rating
● Earned EcoVadis platinum rating again
December 14, 2023 - LANXESS convinces once again when it comes to sustainability: In the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) list, specialty chemicals company LANXESS ranks first in the "Chemicals" category of the European index, with a score of 79 out of 100, and ranks third in the global index. LANXESS scored particularly well in the areas of climate strategy, water, product stewardship and occupational safety.
In November, rating agency MSCI ESG confirmed Lanxess's AA rating for the third consecutive time. Specialty chemicals company LANXESS becomes one of the best companies in the "diversified chemicals" industry.
In addition, EcoVadis confirmed LANXESS’s sustainability rating at platinum level in August. Only the top 1% of more than 100,000 companies rated by EcoVadis receive this award.
Proof of a successful transition to sustainability
"We want to actively drive the transformation of industries and global value chains to contribute to a more sustainable future. Ranking in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and MSCI The good ratings for both ESG and EcoVadis show that we are on the right path," said Hubert Fink, member of the Board of Management of LANXESS AG.
Dow Jones Sustainability Index and MSCI ESG evaluates companies from the aspects of environment, social responsibility and corporate governance. EcoVadis evaluates companies on the environment, labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.
Sustainable products for a climate-neutral future
LANXESS aims to make its entire value chain climate neutral and is therefore further expanding its sustainable product portfolio in 2023. Currently, the raw material base of the plasticizer "Mesamoll" has changed, and 30% of the product consists of sustainable raw materials. Sulfur carrier additives under the “Additin” brand also use locally sourced, renewable raw materials. In addition, the Flavors and Fragrances business unit plans to offer sustainable product variants across its entire Flavors and Fragrances, Preservatives and Animal Nutrition portfolio. Many polyols and oxygenated products are also available in sustainable versions.
LANXESS sells its most sustainable products under the "Scopeblue" brand. More than half of the products under the "Scopeblue" brand are produced from renewable raw materials, resulting in a carbon footprint that is less than half that of similar products produced using conventional raw materials.
Supporting customers to achieve their sustainability goals
LANXESS also supports its customers in their transition to higher sustainability goals. The specialty chemicals company has developed a tool that automatically calculates the carbon footprint of its products. The "Product Carbon Footprint Engine" retrieves existing data from all areas of the company and uses a "production to sales" approach to calculate the emissions generated, covering greenhouse gas emissions during production, related to raw materials, energy, operating materials and transportation product-specific emissions as well as emissions from waste treatment. German certification body TÜV Rheinland certified the tool.
