Chemical fibers are widely used and competition in the industry is fierce
Chemical fiber is a general term for fibers made from polymer compounds as raw materials and processed by chemical and physical methods. Chemical fibers can be divided into two categories according to different sources of materials: synthetic fibers and man-made fibers. The former uses artificial polymer compounds as raw materials, mainly polyester, acrylic, aramid, nylon, etc., while the latter uses natural polymer compounds as raw materials, mainly There are viscose fibers, acetate fibers, etc.
The upstream of the chemical fiber industry chain is the supply of materials such as MDI, PET, ethylene glycol, and purified terephthalic acid; the midstream is the production of various products; the downstream is widely used in textiles, automobiles, medical and other fields.
According to the “China Chemical Fiber Industry Development Prospects and Investment Risk Avoidance Suggestions Report 2023-2027” released by the Industrial Research Center, With the continuous development of the national economy, chemical fibers have attracted more and more attention due to their excellent properties. Their applications in various fields, especially the textile field, have been increasing. In recent years, the demand and output have generally shown an upward trend. In 2022, my country’s chemical fiber demand will exceed 59 million tons, and output will exceed 64 million tons.
From the perspective of product type structure, polyester filament, polyester staple fiber, nylon and viscose staple fiber will account for a relatively high proportion of the total output of chemical fibers in 2022, among which polyester filament is far ahead with an output of more than 40 million tons. In 2022, the output of polyester filament will account for nearly 66% of the total output of chemical fibers, polyester staple fiber will account for more than 16%, nylon and viscose staple fiber will account for about 5%, and acrylic, polypropylene, viscose filament, etc. The proportions are all within 1%.
From the perspective of import and export volume, as my country’s production technology continues to improve, the overall production level of chemical fiber continues to improve. In recent years, my country’s chemical fiber import volume has shown a fluctuating downward trend, while export volume has increased year by year, and its competitiveness in the international market has continued to increase. In 2022, my country’s chemical fiber import volume will be approximately 600,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of approximately 36%, and the export volume will be approximately 5.65 million tons, a year-on-year increase of approximately 8%.
The country attaches great importance to the development of the chemical fiber industry and has issued a number of policies to encourage the transformation and upgrading of the industry, research and development of new materials and new technologies, and improve the green manufacturing system. In April 2022, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission jointly issued the “Guiding Opinions on the High-Quality Development of the Chemical Fiber Industry”, proposing to accurately locate the areas of encouragement and restriction in the chemical fiber industry, and increase the emphasis on high-performance fibers, recycled chemical fibers, and degradable fiber materials. Strengthen support in various fields; coordinate existing channels and increase support for chemical fiber technology innovation, green development, digital transformation, public services and other aspects.
Industry analysts said that currently there are a large number of small and medium-sized enterprises in my country’s chemical fiber industry, industry concentration is low, and competition is fierce. In 2022, the number of enterprises above designated size in my country’s chemical fiber industry will exceed 2,100, and there will be more than 30 listed companies. At present, companies with large revenue in the chemical fiber market include Tongkun Group Co., Ltd., Rongsheng Petrochemical Co., Ltd., Hengli Petrochemical Co., Ltd., Hengyi Petrochemical Co., Ltd., etc.
