As a new type of green environmentally friendly coating, UV light-curing coating industry has huge development potential.
UV light-curing coatings, also known as photosensitive coatings and UV-curing coatings, refer to new coatings made with ultraviolet light as curing energy. UV light-curing coatings have the advantages of good coating performance, green environmental protection, fast curing speed, and high film quality, and are suitable for coating various substrates. According to different dispersion media, UV light-curing coatings can be divided into two types: UV-curing water-based coatings and UV-curing powder coatings.
The main raw materials of UV light-curing coatings are UV light-curing resin, photoinitiators, additives, etc. UV light-curing resins and photoinitiators account for the largest production costs of UV-curing coatings. UV light-curable resins are mostly low molecular weight acrylic modified resins, including polyester acrylate resin, epoxy acrylate resin, polyether acrylate resin and polyurethane acrylate resin. Polyurethane acrylate resin and epoxy acrylate resin have the advantages of wear resistance, light resistance, corrosion resistance, etc., and are not easy to change color under UV irradiation, and are widely used in UV light-curing coatings.
UV light-curing coatings are new types of green and environmentally friendly coatings. In recent years, our government has paid more and more attention to environmental pollution issues and introduced many policies to promote the rapid development of environmentally friendly products and provide driving support for the development of my country’s UV light-curing coatings industry. The national standard “Technical Requirements for Low Volatile Organic Compound Content Coating Products” (GB/T 38597-2020) jointly prepared by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the China Coatings Industry Association and other departments will be officially implemented on February 1, 2021. UV light-curing coatings contain less organic compounds and are low-volatile organic compound content coating products. The formulation of national standards will further raise the threshold of my country’s UV light-curing coatings industry.
The major global manufacturers of UV light-curing coatings include Nippon of Japan, Dulux of the Netherlands, Carpoly of China, etc. In recent years, benefiting from the deepening of environmental protection concepts, the penetration rate of the global UV light-cured coatings market has continued to increase. According to the “2022-2027 China UV Light Curing Coatings Industry Market In-depth Research and Development Prospects Forecast Report released by the Industrial Research Center , the global UV light-curing coatings market will reach US$9.24 billion in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 12.8%.
In recent years, the localization process of my country’s UV light-curing coatings industry has been accelerating, and market demand has become increasingly strong. There are many UV light-curing coating manufacturers in my country, including Carpoly, Huarun, Maydos, Redapple, and Skshu.

Although there are many UV light-curing coating manufacturers in my country, market competition is relatively fragmented. Driven by the technological innovation of leading companies, the concentration of my country’s UV light-curing coatings industry is expected to further increase.
