Arkema accelerates calculation of the product carbon footprint of its solutions

As part of the Group’s strong commitment to decarbonizing its entire value chain, Arkema launches the CACTUS digital tool, designed to automatically calculate the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) of the Group’s solutions.

Launched in early 2023, this new tool calculates a product’s carbon footprint following a cradle-to-gate approach, taking into account all greenhouse gas emissions from the extraction of raw materials to the gate of Arkema’s production sites.

The calculation is based on the requirements of the International Standards Organization (ISO 14067), the principles of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), and follows Together for
Sustainability (TfS) guidance.

By 2024, the CACTUS tool will help Arkema cover more than 50% of its sales with carbon footprint data or life cycle assessment (LCA). And 41% and 27% in 2022 and 2021 respectively.

Arkema also announced a new goal to achieve a product carbon footprint covering 90% of sales by 2030. This is a new milestone in the Group’s sustainability goals, and by significantly increasing the ability to calculate the carbon footprint of its products, Arkema will help its customers achieve their goals of reducing Scope 3 upstream greenhouse gas emissions and seek more sustainable solutions.
