Purpose
Formulating two-component polyurethane coatings and adhesives
Storage stability
Curing agent must be stored in a sealed container. Whenever product is transferred from one container to another, moisture (including air moisture) must be prevented from entering. Therefore, when small amounts of product are to be used frequently, they should not be removed from large shipping containers but should be removed from specially designed bottles of appropriate size. In addition to the original container, twist cans made of aluminum or glass are particularly suitable for storing hardeners. Suitable lids include screw caps with sealing gaskets. Gaskets made of materials that release alkaline substances are not suitable. Crystals will form when the product is stored at low temperatures, but when heated slowly (to room temperature) the crystals will dissolve.
Product Safety
The curing agent is composed of polyisocyanate and ethyl acetate, the former has low volatility, while the latter is volatile and flammable. Therefore, precautions appropriate for use with readily flammable organic solvents must be taken. Fog generated when working with adhesives containing hardeners must be removed using an exhaust fan to ensure that there is no risk of inhalation.
Compatibility
Solvents that can be used to dilute the curing agent include: methyl acetate, acetic acid Ethyl ester, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone and toluene. All these solvents must be free of water and alcohol.
Purpose
Properly formulated two-component adhesive after adding curing agent The validity period is limited and must therefore be used before expiry. The above pot life depends not only on the polymer content of the adhesive, but also on other ingredients such as resins, antioxidants and solvents. After the pot life expires, which typically lasts from a few hours to a working day, the adhesive becomes increasingly difficult to work with, its viscosity rises rapidly, and the formulation eventually gels irreversibly.
