Acetone, also known as dimethyl ketone, has the chemical formula C3H6O and is the simplest saturated ketone. Acetone mostly appears as a colorless and transparent liquid with a mint smell under normal temperature and pressure, and is easily soluble in water and organic solvents such as ethanol, chloroform, methanol, and ether. Acetone is flammable, volatile, and chemically active. After years of development, acetone preparation methods have been basically mature and can be roughly divided into isopropyl alcohol method, grain fermentation method, cumene method, acetylene hydration method, etc. At present, the main production method of acetone in the world is the cumene method, but in my country’s acetone production, the grain fermentation method still accounts for a certain proportion.

At this stage, my country’s acetone industry chain has basically been formed. The upstream of the industrial chain is mainly the raw material industry, providing pure benzene, propylene and other raw materials; the midstream is mainly the acetone production industry, responsible for the synthesis and production of acetone; the downstream is mainly the application field, acetone is mainly used to produce isopropyl alcohol, bisphenol A , acetone cyanohydrin, ketene, methacrylic acid, MIBK, adhesives and other products.

From the perspective of market structure, isopropyl alcohol has become the largest application field of acetone, accounting for 21.07%; followed by acetone cyanohydrin, accounting for 20.52%; bisphenol A ranks third, accounting for 20.02% .

As an important organic raw material, acetone has a wide range of applications. In the chemical industry, acetone is mostly used to produce chemicals such as bisphenol A and epoxy resin. It can also be used as an extraction agent for various hormones and microorganisms. In the field of medicine, acetone can be directly used as the main raw material for the production of vitamin C. Overall, my country’s acetone market has a large demand.

According to the “In-depth Market Research and Investment Strategy Suggestions Report on Acetone Industry 2023-2027” released by the Industrial Research Center, in recent years , my country’s chemical industry has developed rapidly, and the market demand for acetone has gradually increased. As my country’s large-scale acetone plants are gradually put into operation, acetone production efficiency has been greatly improved and production capacity has increased. In 2022, the total production capacity of my country’s acetone industry will be 2.5871 million tons, an increase of 26.02% over the previous year.

From an import perspective, there is a certain gap between my country’s acetone market demand and production, and the import volume is relatively large. According to data released by the General Administration of Customs, my country’s acetone imports in 2022 will be 715,300 tons, a year-on-year increase of 14.89%.

From the perspective of import source countries, my country’s acetone importing countries mainly include Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, etc. Among them, Saudi Arabia has become the country with the largest import volume of acetone, accounting for 31.28%; followed by Thailand, accounting for 22.24% of the import volume; South Korea ranked third, accounting for 21.02% of the import volume.

Industry analysts said that my country’s larger acetone companies mainly include Ningbo Xingye, Zhejiang Petrochemical, Wanhua Chemical, Changchun Chemical, Lihua Yiweiyuan, Xissa Chemical, etc. Among them, Zhejiang Petrochemical has the largest market share, accounting for 19.04%; followed by Lihua Yiweiyuan, with a market share of 10.21%; Wanhua Chemical ranks third, with a market share of 10.12%.
